I do enter juried art shows but only infrequently. My work has been invited to show at international juried art shows in Princeton, Denver, Washington D.C. and other locations.

An explaination of Juried Art Show Awards follows the list of awards I've won.



U.S. Veterans Administration
2008 Fine Arts, Applied Arts, and Crafts Competition
Won: First Place: Fine Art Carving
Title: "The Netmender"
Won: Second Place: Jewelry
Title: "Alaskan Hunter"
Won: Second Place: Special Recognition
Title: "No Rest"

"The First Place award is given to work receiving the majority of the judges votes as the most outstanding piece of art within the competition criteria."
The Second Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the second majority of the judges votes within a given category.
Criteria: The VA Art Show and Competition is open to all fine art styles including oils, watercolors, sculpture, mixed media, etc., as well as applied arts and crafts.

"The First Place award is given to work receiving the majority of the judges votes as the most outstanding piece of art within the competition criteria."

Criteria: The VA Art Show and Competition is open to all fine art styles including oils, watercolors, sculpture, mixed media, etc., as well as applied arts and crafts.

2006 Art Challenge Show
Won: Best of Show
Title: "Arctic Treasure," "Catching His Attention," "Nightstar"
(for the three-piece collection)

"Best of Show" is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the majority of the judges' votes as the most outstanding piece of art in the show regardless of category.

Criteria: The Art Challenge is open to all art styles including oils, watercolors, sculpture, mixed media, etc.

Won: Judge's Award
Title: "River Challenge"
Won: Merit Award
Title: "Fallen Angel"

"The Judge's Award is designed to bring attention to work that the judges, independent of competition criteria, feel is the one piece in the show most worthy of special recognition." This award is second only to "Best in Show."

"The Merit Award award is given to recognize work deemed by the judges as worthy of special recognition.

Criteria: The Art Challenge is open to all art styles including oils, watercolors, sculpture, mixed media, etc.

Juried Art Show Awards Explained

Best of Show
This award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the majority of the judges' votes as the most outstanding piece of art in the show regardless of category.

Judge's Award
This award is designed to bring attention to work that the judges, independent of competition criteria, feel is the one piece of art in the show most worthy of special recognition. This award is second only to "Best in Show" when awarded separately from Merit Awards.

First Place
The First Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the majority of the judges votes as the most outstanding piece of art within a given category.

Second Place
The Second Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the second majority of the judges votes within a given category.

Third Place
The Third Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the third majority of the judges votes within a given category.

Merit Award
The Merit Award award is given to recognize work deemed by the judges as worthy of special recognition. It is sometimes called a Judge's Award but only when the prestigeous, show-wide Judge's Award is not presented separately.
