Awards

I do enter juried art shows but only infrequently. My work has been invited to show at international juried art shows in Princeton, Denver, Washington D.C. and other locations.

Juried Art Show Awards Explained
(Ribbons could be any color at different shows.)

Best of Show
This award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the majority of the judges' votes as the most outstanding piece of art in the show regardless of category.

Judge's Award
This award is designed to bring attention to work that the judges, independent of competition criteria, feel is the one piece of art in the show most worthy of special recognition. This award is second only to "Best in Show" when awarded separately from Merit Awards.

First Place
The First Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the majority of the judges votes as the most outstanding piece of art within a given category.

Second Place
The Second Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the second majority of the judges votes within a given category.

Third Place
The Third Place award is given to a work, based on competition criteria, that receives the third majority of the judges votes within a given category.

Merit Award
The Merit Award award is given to recognize work deemed by the judges as worthy of special recognition. It is sometimes called a Judge's Award but only when the prestigious, show-wide Judge's Award is not presented separately.
