“Bedroom of the Working Poor”

by artist Jim Stevens

Monofilament Painting (click on image for full view)

Acrylic painting on over 1,000 strands of monofilament line – each strand is anchored in the case with sterling silver.

The opaque and semi-transparent materials combine with empty space to create a work of art that appears both solid yet weightless – a captured shadow.

Like too many, for this man the reality of poverty made his car his home. The bedroom of the homeless is a very public place, not a sanctuary.
