“The Arbitrator”

A unique piece of memorabilia, this work displays the scrimshaw portaits of American Civil War legends Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and Jefferson Davis.
The portraits show us the great division of ideology between the North and South as represented by Douglass and Davis and the ultimate arbitrator and leader who brought an agonizing yet hopeful end to the conflict.
The hand crafted base is cocobolo wood uniquely inlaid with the mammoth ivory canvas highlighted with side scrolls of inlaid sterling silver.
Inlaid into the base are the ivory scrimshawed names of these historic individuals.
