A unique piece of memorabilia, this work displays the scrimshaw portraits of Jim Bridger and Northern Cheyenne Chief Dull Knife. Bridger’s scouting expeditions in the Montana territory and Powder River areas have resulted in many places that now bear his name.
Rotating the horn, other scrimshaw images include a map of The Bozeman Trail, an indigenous tent encampment, a mountain cougar, a plains bison, and western gold panner.
The horn construction displays a hand carved spout ring, carrying strap neck ring, triangle and curved cut engrailment, walnut stained pine butt plug, and hand-wrought steel carrying strap staple.
The arched, hand-crafted base is walnut stained pine.
